YMT work with only the very best artistic and pastoral teams to create a safe and supportive environment in which to nurture talent and creativity. The creative staff we work with are of the highest calibre, and work in the theatre industry at a national and international level.
YMT is the UK's biggest, most vibrant and most active music theatre company for young people. We are recognised by the national foundation for Youth Music as one of the nine leading National Youth Music Organisations.
As well as developing and improving skills in drama, singing, dance and music, everyone who takes part in a Summer Skills course will be assessed by Trinity Guildhall and receive a Grade 6 certificate in 'Musical Theatre In Production'.
YMT creates new and original work, and Summer Skills participants are an integral part of the creative process. All of our work involves young people creating, developing and devising work themselves, supported by professional directors, choreographers and musical directors, resulting in a performance of their brand new musical for family and friends. It's an action-packed week brimful of improvisation, lyric writing, choreography, creativity and most importantly lots of fun!
ummer Skills is open to anyone aged between 11 and 21, whatever their
experience, so there is no audition to worry about.
Participants arrive on Monday and work for six intensive days to devise a brand new musical, which is performed to family and friends on Saturday afternoon.
The cost of the course includes all food and drink for the week.
Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing that they can move around in.
Young people are looked after throughout the week by a team of pastoral staff. All chaperones are CRB checked and head chaperones are first aid trained.
It costs £425 to participate in a Summer Skills course (group discounts are available), which includes accommodation, food, pastoral care, tuition and a YMT t-shirt. The fee can be paid in regular instalments. As an educational charity we want to ensure that all young people, regardless of financial background, have the opportunity to take part - so we work closely with participants to give advice on raising funds for their course fee and see this as an integral part of the educational process.
