What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

School groups can come face to face with a wealth of amazing wetland biodiversity at the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) Slimbridge. The first of Sir Peter Scott’s nine centres to be built in the UK, it offers a unique educational experience for groups of any age. Surrounded by the world’s largest collection of rare, exotic and endangered swans, ducks and geese, Slimbridge has close to sixty years of cutting edge environmental educational expertise to offer young visitors and teachers alike.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Immersive, creative, participative and risk-free experiences of nature are on offer throughout the year with curriculum linked programmes lead by specialist teachers. These hands-on, minds-on workshops offer children an exciting, real-life experience of nature, worlds apart from anything they can experience in the class room.

What is the age range of the activities?

We are happy to cater for Early years right through to Adult learning groups.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

Worksheets and activities for the grounds are available from the centre as well as a suite of activities which can be downloaded from the website www.wwt.org.uk/learn

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

No minimum or maximum numbers. All sized groups welcomed. Teacher ratio 1 free adult:5 primary aged children, 1 free adult:10 junior aged children and above

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

A risk assessment can either be sent, faxed or downloaded from our website www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/slimbridge/schools

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Yes we welcome teachers to come on these visits. Please call our Bookings Officer on 01453 891223 to arrange one.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

There are indoor and outdoor eating areas for groups to use alongside the Restaurant and kiosks in the grounds.

Is specific clothing required?

Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and suitable footwear are always encouraged.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes all Education staff are First Aiders alongside a duty person each day

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

If Photography groups are visiting we politely ask to be notified in advance.
