Visits are free and available by appointment to schools / groups within the waste Contract area for Greater Manchester (which excludes Wigan)
We offer high quality, fun, interactive visits for groups to learn about waste and recycling. Visitors consider how to reduce waste, understand and see at first hand the technologies used to treat household waste. We currently offer two venues to visit: one where visitors can see how electricity is generated by burning waste, and one to see an active landfill site. In the future, there will be two additional education centres where visitors will be able to see: what happens to recyclable waste, food and garden waste being composted and non recyclable waste being biologically treated to generate electricity.
Various aspects of the curriculum are covered on a general visit or activities can be tailored to specific needs. Visitors benefit from the very sensory impact of waste- encouraging waste awareness and greater participation in recycling and waste reduction
Visitors participate in safely conducted site tours and take part in interactive activities in our dedicated on site education centres.
