What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Vauxhall City Farm offers a unique, hands-on learning environment where children can meet a range of friendly farm animals. The farm offers pupils the chance to apply the knowledge they learn in school in a real working environment. We tailor each visit to your requirements and are very flexible. Friendly staff, good facilities and an excellent safety record make Vauxhall City Farm a great venue for school visits.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

We offer curriculum linked sessions to support Key stage 1 and 2 science, citizenship and maths. All activities are 'hands-on' with the chance to touch animals, weigh feed and plant seeds. All our sessions build upon numeracy, literacy, communication and team work skills.

What are the activities?

As well as our popular farm tours we offer a range of curriculum linked workshops, arts and crafts, gardening, milking our life sized plastic cow and mini beast huunting. We will soon be able to offer pond dipping. We also offer riding opportunities for disabled and able bodied visitors.

What is the age range of the activities?

From 3years - 99years!

Sample programme of the activities:

10:30am: Your group arrives at the farm. After a friendly welcome and short health and safety talk the tour starts in the small animals area where the children meet chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits and horses. We then move onto the large animals yard where the group meets our rare breed sheep and goats, cows, alpacas and turkeys. After meeting some very friendly ferrets we move on to see our rare breed pigs. We finish at the duck pond where the children can stroke 'Lunch', one of our oldest and friendliest resident ducks.

11:15 - 11:30: A short toilet and hand-washing break.

11:30 - 12:30 We move into the classroom to start our Winter workshop and make bird feeders. After an exciting hibernation game out in the park we finish up with a winter craft.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

We provide all materials but recommend that visitors wear wellies or sturdy footwear and dress warmly in clothes which they don't mind getting dirty.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Group size 2-30 children, ratio is dependent on school's requirement.
£2.00 per child (Lambeth school or organisation)
£2.50 per child (Non-Lambeth school or organisation)

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

The farm has an extensive risk assessment policy which is sent to group leaders as part of a pre-visit pack upon booking.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

We advise all teachers to make a pre-visit to the farm. If you let us know you are coming we can meet you and show you where all the facilities are and answer any questions. When you book we will send you an extensive pre-visit pack full of information of how to get the most out of your visit.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

The farm has a classroom with a small kitchen which can hold up to 30 children. The classroom can be booked for lunch at £25 an hour. We have a sheltered place to eat packed lunches in our ecology garden. We have toilets and handwashing facilities.

Is specific clothing required?

It's best for children to wear wellies and waterproof clothes on wet days. Pathways on the farm are hard standing but we have a small grass area where visitors can sit amongst the chickens.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes, we have first aid kits and trained staff.

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

The farm welcomes visitors to take photographs of the animals!
