What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Curriculum-linked encounters of the really wild kind!

Inspiring, knowledgeable guides provide an intimate insight into the world of exotic butterflies, birds and insects, friendly farm animals, native wildlife and magnificent birds of prey.

What are the activities?

Children encounter a wide range of creatures at close quarters, from exotic butterflies, birds and insects to friendly farm animals, chattering parrots and magnificent birds of prey. Many animals are free-roaming and children are encouraged to participate in supervised handling activities.

What is the age range of the activities?

A truly unique learning experience for children of all ages but especially suitable for Key Stages 1&2, the Tropical Butterfly House offers school groups a wide range of learning opportunities linked to the curriculum.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

An Education Pack is available for teachers of Key Stages 1 & 2.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Teachers are invited to make a free pre-booked preliminary visit in advance of their trip to develop risk assessments and discuss the trip with a member of the centre staff.

A generic risk assessment is available upon request.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

A free pre-visit is recommended. Please arrange a date at the time of booking.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

We are a large attraction with excellent educational facilities and can accommodate up to 150 school children every day.

Designated indoor areas are reserved for packed lunches. Drinks and snacks are available to purchase from the café. The café is able to cater for all requirements but may need prior notice.

Please help us remain a viable education resource by allowing your group to make a purchase from the Jungle Gift Shop.

Is specific clothing required?

The Butterfly House is warm and humid and the nature trial can be a little muddy at certain times of the year so layers and wellies are recommended.

Do you have first aid on site?

There are qualified first aiders and first aid facilities on site.

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

Visitors are welcome to take photos, audio and video footage for personal or classroom use. Material reproduced for commercial use: Copyright The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre.
