What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Our great little Museum will inspire pupils from Year 3 to Year 7 to find pleasure in reading and writing creatively. Taking the lead from one of the world's greatest children's authors, pupils will be encouraged to play with language, create colourful characters and think up perfect plots.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

The biographical galleries reveal the stories behind the stories, while the Story Centre lets pupils' imaginations take centre stage. Here they can create a stop-frame animation, fashion a photo-fit character and explore a replica of Roald Dahl's famous writing hut, all the while dressed as a character of their own invention - or Roald Dahl's.

What are the activities?

Classes visiting the Museum will enjoy a fully-guided 90 minute session. You can choose a morning session which runs from 10.00am to 11.30am or an afternoon session, 12.30pm to 2.00pm.
A 90 minute session includes:
• a 10 minute orientation
• a 20 minute interactive exploration of Roald Dahl's Writing hut and writing methods
• 40 minutes to explore the hands-on activities in the Museum galleries
• a 20 minute workshop in Miss Honey's Classroom

What is the age range of the activities?

Key Stage 2 and 3 (6 year olds to 14 year olds)

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

We offer pre visits in the form of Golden tickets to give teachers the opportunity to meet with a member of the Education team if they wish.
On the day each child is given a Story Ideas Book for them to record their phizz – whizzing ideas in.
There are also website activities and downloads to help with organising on the day.
