Situated in the centre of Wakefield, the 200 year old Orangery has grown oranges, been the home of a bear, a school and now provides a home to Beam. the arts & architecture centre promoting good buildings & design for the Yorkshire Region. Our gallery hosts 5/6 exhibitions a year. See www,beam.uk.net for further information.
Particularly at a time with so many new schools and refurbishments to existing ones, we will help students understand what makes good design.
We have also helped develop a toolkit for the DCSF to engage young people in thinking about the public spaces - parks, playgrounds - they are familiar with.
Activities may vary depending upon the exhibition - but in general require students to investigate the gardens & building at The Orangery to develop their own ideas about design.
Visit to the gallery or a longer stay involving our staff leading a workshop activity.
