What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

The King's Theatre is a beautiful building in the heart of Edinburgh. This 1350 seat venue is 103 years old. You can see many quality dramas here and also our ever popular King's Panto - oh yes you can!

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Pupils can experience being part of an audience and the magic of live performance.

What are the activities?

Live Performance: Drama, music & dance.

Education Work: Workshops & talks relating to our current productions.


What is the age range of the activities?

Production dependent - pre-school to adult.

Sample programme of the activities:

Room on the Broom, Carrie's War, Enron, Pantomime - Jack and the Beanstalk.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

Many shows have Education Resources for teachers. We also offer Theatre Talks & Tours.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

School parties and Youth Groups of 10 or more qualify for amazingly discounted seats for young people on appropriate productions (excluding some Fri and Sat evenings). Tickets are usually £7.50 each (including Theatre Development Fund*) plus 1 adult goes FREE per every 10 young people paid for. Additional accompanying adults will be charged at the group discounted rate. Seats may be restricted to certain parts of the auditorium. Your tickets can be reserved without payment up to 6 weeks before the performance.

* The Theatres Development Fund will protect the future of the Festival and King’s Theatres. Every penny raised will be directed solely at the improvement of our buildings and their equipment.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

We have a booklet called 'getting the most out of your visit' which we issue with all school bookings.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

The theatre is located close to the meadows for picnics and many shops and cafes. During performances we have 2 bar areas open for refreshments. We also have a small area which can be reserved for packed lunches.

Is specific clothing required?

No.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes, we have dedicated in house first aiders and St John's Ambulance first aiders present at all performances.

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

No audio or visual recording of any kind to take place during performances.
