Find out about Henry Jones and the story of his struggle for education. See displays of Victorian life in a typical Welsh community.
Sir Henry Jones (1852-1922) was a major influence on the education system in Wales - learn about his journey, his struggle for education, and how hard work and commitment raised a man from humble origins to become the Professor of Moral Philosophy at Glasgow University.
A guided tour around a typical Welsh Victorian cottage. Stories of local traditions and characters.
All ages - from primary to secondary.
On arrival the group will have a guided tour of the museum. They are then welcome to wander around the museum, our heritage garden (we only grow vegetables that would be familiar to Henry Jones and his family) and to look at the exhibition in the 'briws' (exhibitions change monthly during the summer season, please contact for more details). Victorian outfits can be arranged for children aged 5-12 if arranged in advance.
Current information or study guide on the Victorians that has been used in the lessons - a chance for the students to compare a Welsh Victorian cottage in a rural village with the information already learnt in the classroom.
Maximum group size - 20. If there are more than 20 in the group, we can split the group and arrange that half can visit the local church and historic 4000 year old oak tree while the other half is at the museum, and then swap.
It is important that the school supplies enough teachers to supervise the children during the trip. Risk is very low at the museum.
This can be arranged, please contact the museum before the visit. We can also offer information about Sir Henry Jones if requested before the visit.
There is a shop at the museum. We can arrange that the children can eat a packed lunch at the local primary school which is located across the road.
