Opening Times

Shakespeare's Birthplace, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Hall's Croft and Nash's House & New Place are open daily throughout the year except 25 & 26 December. Mary Arden's Farm is open April - October. Last entry 5pm April - October; 4pm November - March. For details please visit www.shakespeare.org.uk

What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Each of the five Shakespeare Houses has its own theme and together they bring Shakespeare's story vividly to life. You can combine visits with a course or choose visit one or more houses.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Courses on offer include living history participatory workshops; nature trails; drama workshops and specialist talks on Shakespeare's plays.

From Early Years to Graduate

Sample programme of the activities:

Tudors Alive! offers KS2 pupils the chance to become Tudors for a day.
Shakespeare Aloud! enables KS3 pupils to explore Shakespeare's plays and language

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

For a visit to the Houses Discovery Packs are available for KS2, KS3 and KS4.

Any specialist requirements for courses are communicated at the time of booking

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Minimum party size to qualify for group rates is 15 paying visitors. No maximum size though due to the nature of the historic Shakespeare Houses large groups will be asked to split into smaller parties.
One free teacher's place for every 10 children / students

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Risk assessments can be sent out in advance

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Yes provided a request is made at least 2 working days in advance

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

Varies according to the House being visited - details available on request

Is specific clothing required?

No

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

Yes - guidance will be given on arrival

The Shakespeare Houses are intimate Tudor and jacobean family homes and to ensure your visit goes as smoothly as possible we ask all groups to book in advance.
