Northern Stage works with schools, colleges and universities across the region on a number of areas. From career talks, to contemporary performances that help gain insight and contextualise syllabuses, to tours, making groups and workshops.
Northern Stage presents a wide variety of theatre, from classic plays to productions in foreign languages, on topics as diverse as Quantum Physics to the environment. Many subjects may help to gain insight and add context to studies. For drama/performing arts students, we can offer workshops in contemporary practice, discusssions, access to rehearsals and theatre professionals.
Groups can be involved in: seeing a show, taking part in a workshop, taking a tour, engagaing in career talks, and other activities pre-arranged.
the theatre works with children from as young as 2years old and reception classes through to postgraduate students, and beyond to older retired people.
This will depend on what you are doing. Mostly though, you don't need to bring anything other than your enthusiasm and interest in learning.
There is no maximum group size for visits to productions other than the auditorium capacity. For some workshops there will be a minimum number of students required.
The theatre is a public building and as such is covered by Public Liability Insurance. Prior to each school visit (particualrly tours) staff are consulted on appropriate and inappropriate places to take groups of people.
There is a Teacher's Forum which any teacher can be involved in and let us know what they'd like to do and what we get right and wrong. Teacher's are also welcome to come along in advance of any booking to familiraise themselves with staff and the building. There is a restaurant attached to the theatre which can cater for any number of students.
Only if you are doing something messy opr energetci such as making or a drama workshop. Other than that, you can wear what you like.
Yes, many staff are trained in First Aid and it is part of our public facing responsibility to ensure your health and saftey in and around our theatre.
There may be some restictions on what you can take photographs of in the building (most notably sets and costumes). However there are generally few of these.
