What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

The Natural History Museum is a world-class resource for learners. We aim to help people enjoy the natural world, develop their scientific knowledge and understand the impact of science on their lives

What are the activities?

The Museum is a leading resource for science and geography education. Our school programme caters to all ages and levels including foundation, primary, secondary and A-level. We offer curriculum-linked events, workshops, hands-on activities and a teacher support service to help you get the most out of your visit. All school services are free, but must be booked in advance.

What is the age range of the activities?

A visit to the Museum is a great way for teachers to find stimulation for lessons, add a new twist to a project or encourage pupils to try something completely new.

Our school programme offers inspirational materials for all ages and abilities. It taps into our unique collection of more than 70 million treasures from the natural world, supported by unparalleled, world-class scientific expertise.

We love sharing our knowledge, so why not book a visit?

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

Bring notebooks, pens and pencils to write down the facts that you learn and to draw pictures of the things that you see.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

The Natural History Museum in partnership with the Science Learning Centre London provides a programme of continuing professional development courses and activities for teachers.

Courses, previews and workshops aim to inspire, inform and support teachers and are enhanced by the Museum's excellent galleries and resources and the cutting edge research work of Museum scientists.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

All our restaurants, cafés and snack bars are family-friendly and have tasty, freshly-prepared food. Most have great kids' menus and activities too.

Our coffee is fairly traded and we only use British organic milk. We're always looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment.

Many of our restaurants and cafés have healthy food options and high chairs for babies.

Our shops offer you the chance to take a little bit of us home with you when you leave.

Whether you’re looking for imaginative gifts, souvenirs or toys, you’ll find a fantastic range on sale in our three outlets. We also stock an extensive range of books.

When major exhibitions are on, you’ll also be able to buy merchandise inspired by the show.

For mail order, please call +44 (0)20 7942 5494 between 9.00 and 17.00.

Do you have first aid on site?

For first aid, please go to the nearest information desk or find the nearest member of staff: look for the red uniform and name badge.

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

You can take photographs and videos for personal use in the Museum unless otherwise stated, but the use of tripods is not permitted.
