The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00 and also open Mondays during school and bank holidays.
The National Media Museum is free. With seven galleries focusing on photography, television, animation, light and IMAX film technology – and a changing programme of special exhibitions – the museum has a wide range of learning opportunities. Bookable facilities also include lunchbox storage and free packed lunch areas.

There are free galleries to explore, an IMAX cinema, talks and events, workshops in media production such as Television Advertising and Animation and a changing programme of special exhibitions.
The majority of the museum's activities are suitable for pupils from KS1 upwards. Please call to discuss your requirements and we can tailor a visit appropriate to the age and ability level of your group.
There are no restrictions on group sizes but we do request a minimum teacher to pupil ratio of 1:10.
The museum’s public exhibitions and public areas have been designed and
are maintained as safe spaces for all our visitors. Risk assessments have
been completed for all museum spaces and activities, and copies of the
recorded assessments are available for inspection.
Teachers are welcome to visit the museum before visiting with their group. A member of the Learning team will be happy to meet with you to discuss your requirements if you are able to call ahead to check someone will be available. You are welcome to preview any of our standard IMAX films for £1. We suggest you book ahead with our bookings officer to take advantage of this offer and you need to bring proof of teacher status with you on the day.
There are bookable lunch spaces and trolleys for storing packed lunches, subject to availability. There is also a cafe and shop.
The museum has trained members of staff able to provide First Aid treatment. Please ask a member of staff if you require any help during your visit.
Photographs can be taken anywhere in the museum, except in the Special Exhibitions.
