What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

We have a selection of everything from a real Egyptian Mummy to dinosaurs and fossils, all housed in an Elizabthan Manor house. Also housed within Maidstone Museum is the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regimental Museum.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

We provide structured workshops on Romans, Anglo Saxons, Victorian Childhood, Victorian Washday, WW2, Mini Beasts, Toys, Greeks, Tudors, Dinosaurs & Fossils and Art Detectives.

What are the activities?

For schools we offer structured sessions in the subjects mentioned earlier. Each session lasts (whether a visit to the Museum or Outreach to your school) lasts approx. 1 hour with questions and answers and the children getting involved in the subject and handling real artefacts. We can also provide a clay session where children can make their own version of artefacts they have handled or seen in the museum. During the school holidays we offer craft activities recommended for under 12's. We also offer storytelling and craft activities for the under 5's.

We provide everything that you will need.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Nursery/Reception - min. 1 to 6, recommended 1 to 4
Infants (Y1 and Y2) - min. 1 to 8, recommended 1 to 5
Juniors (Y3 - Y6) - min. 1 to 10, recommended 1 to 8
Secondary (Y7 - Y11) - min. 1 to 10, recommended 1 to 10
Post 16 - min. 1 adult per booking, recommended 1 to 30

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

Students are welcome to bring their own packed lunches (you should call to book the chapel as a lunch venue if required). There is a shop that sells souvenirs and educational toys relating to the Museum and workshop subjects. There is also a coffee shop with refreshments and snacks.
