What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

The 'Miners Trail', a self-guide footpath around the old workings linking the natural and man made features of the 7 acre site, will teach both old and young alike all about the history of the Lead Miners of Wales. This trail includes Dvd shows, a small underground tunnel with a post box at the end of it, a main museum building, various outdoor exhibitions and even panning for Gold, Argentiferous Galena and Minerals - so something to keep everyone occupied and learning!

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

History is our main focus - with Britain having such a cultural background in Mining it is important that it is not forgotten.

What are the activities?

As well as the Self-guided 'Miners Trail', we also lead small groups underground on the 45 minute caplamp tour beyond the 'earthquake zone' and into the of a forgotten world.

What is the age range of the activities?

The surface areas of the site can be enjoyed at all ages, however please do be aware that unfortunately (due to Health and Safety reasons) that we cannot allow under 3's to accompany the 45 minute underground guided tour into the 'Earthquake Zone'.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

We carry out daily risk assessment checks on the site.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

If you wish to visit the site before bringing a group, let us know and we can help to arrange this!

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

We have a Miners cafe on site providing explorers with drinks and snacks and even Cornish Pasties and Sausage Rolls in the busier periods of the Seasons.
Our rock shop has a wonderful mixture of mineral specimins and crystals for sale, along with various gifts, Welsh themed products and also a range of stunning silver jewellery.

Is specific clothing required?

Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are a must for the underground guided tours - the average temperature underground is just 11 degrees - even in the height of summer!

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

Copyright restrictions apply only to the main museum building.
