Our Tudor ReCreations are living history, portraying ordinary Tudor Life - all ages, all classes, all walks of life. Meet the gentry who lived at Kentwell Hall during Tudor times (we select a specific year each year to recreate and we are faithful to the actual history of the hall); talk to the gardeners; farmhands; woodmen; weavers; children; peasants, apprentices and skilled workers. There are some opportunities for hands on experience but everywhere there is full interaction with the Tudor folk. To heighten the experience all schools (children and adults) are encouraged to dress in Tudor dress and swap modern money for Tudor money for use inside the experience.
Principal subject is Tudor History but a visit to Kentwell will cover curriculum subjects from Art&Design; Design&Technology; English; Geography; History; Maths; Music; Science and Social/Political Studies
Enter through the Time Tunnel (summer only) or gate (september) and meet and talk to Tudors from all walks of life. An assault on all the senses: See Tudor, Hear Tudor, Smell Tudor, Speak Tudor, Touch Tudor and even Taste Tudor Tudor!
We welcome children as young as 5 and up to 16 - the experience appeals to every school age.
Either set route through House or manor. House route meet the gentry and serving staff, the brewers, bakers, dairymaids, apothecaries; and many others. Manor route meet the potters, blacksmiths, woodmen, weavers, farmers, peasants and many others. Or choose free route day where you wander as you wish to enjoy all the activities.
We provide notes on making the costumes, history of the specific year we shall be recreating, how to talk Tudor. The rest of it we provide as you visit - an all-encompassing Tudor experience. We request that where at all possible you come in costume, bring a drinking vessel tied on a string, and a purse in which to hold your Tudor coins.
