SELF-GUIDED VISIT or VICTORIAN ACTIVITIES
SELF-GUIDED VISIT
We will give your group an introductory talk taking about 5 minutes, and then split up into smaller groups depending on how many adult helpers you have. We recommend no more than 8 children to 1 adult. We give group leaders a set of notes and each group will set off in a different part of the museum to avoid overcrowding. Please allow 1 to 2 hours for your visit depending on the age of the children. Copies of the notes are included in our Teachers' Pack (see below). We limit group visits to 45 children.
VICTORIAN ACTIVITIES
We wear Victorian costume for these activities and the children benefit greatly from dressing up too. The museum has plenty of dressing-up clothes for those who arrive in modern dress. After a short introductory talk, the children are split into 3 groups for the activities which include the VICTORIAN SCHOOLROOM, a domestic activity such as WASHING and a close look at the VICTORIAN KITCHEN, after which there is time to look round the rest of the museum. Allow 2 hours for your visit. We limit Victorian visits to 35 children, plus 3 or 4 adults.
We can provide everything necessary for the visit.
We limit Victorian visits to 40 children, plus 4 or 5 adults, and ordinary visits to 45 children.
One adult free with every 10 children; extra adults are charged at the standard rate.
A copy of our Risk Assessment is available on our web site.
FREE VISIT
We recommend that teachers make a free introductory visit before bringing a school party.
SHOP
The Museum is entirely self-supporting, and we therefore appreciate it very much if children are allowed to spend a little pocket money in our shop at the end of their visit.
PACKED LUNCH
We have a large garden for use by summer visitors, but only limited indoor facilities. The Parish Hall, close by, is available at modest rates for lunchtime bookings. We'd be happy to provide details.
We do provide Victorian clothing but you are free to supply your own.
