Heage Windmill

Opening Times

School visits are Monday to Friday, when the mill is closed to the public

What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

A fully working and originally restored 18th century working flour mill

What are the activities?

Our guides are experienced at involving children in “hands on” activities leading them through the story of milling

What is the age range of the activities?

Keystage 2 up to Keystage 5

Sample programme of the activities:

A guided tour of the mill with hands-on demonstrations

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

We will provide educational packs for schoolchildren

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Access to the inside of the mill is limited to fourteen people at one time. A guide will lead you around the mill to make your visit more interesting. We ask that visitors are careful and follow the guide’s advice at all times. You will need to include an adult with every six children (minimum) in your group.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Yes, available on request

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

There is an onsite shop selling souvenirs and a small range of drinks and ices (and flour!)

Is specific clothing required?

No, but would suggest comfortable clothing with no loose ties/scarf’s etc as the mill has many moving parts and stairways

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes
