Opening Times

The Great Orme Country Park is open every day of the year, 24 hours a day. The Country Park Visitor Centre opens 7 days per week from March to the end of October, 9.30am to 5.30pm. The opening times of other facilities within the Country Park vary but most are seasonal.

What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

The Great Orme Country Park is a spectacular coastal, limestone headland with a wealth of wildlife, history and visitor attractions to explore. The visitor centre provides an excellent base from which to explore the rest of the Country Park.

What are the activities?

Environmental Activity Walks based around the following topics;

Wildlife and Habitats of the Great Orme
Habitat Management/Nature Conservation
Rocks and Fossils
History of the Great Orme
Contrasting Location
Visitor Management
Environmental Impact of Tourism

Other activities such as Rockpool Safaris and Minibeast Hunts can be arranged.

What is the age range of the activities?

We cater for groups from Juniors right through to Post graduate students

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

A workbook is available on CD Rom to support aspects of the activities on offer. Alternatively those groups studying Key Stage 2 Geography - comparing and contrasting a home locality, may be interested in the Geographical Association's 'Storylink Llandudno' Resource Pack.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

The minimum group size is 10 pupils and the maximum is 35 pupils. All teachers and accompanying adults are free of charge.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

A risk assessment for the activities offered to pre-booked school groups is available on booking.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

There is a cafe at the summit of the Great Orme which sells sandwiches, snacks, meals and hot and cold drinks. There is also a souvenir shoop at the cafe. The shop within the Country Park Visitor Centre sells wildlife related gifts in aid of the North Wales Wildlife Trust.

Is specific clothing required?

Warm, waterproof clothing is essential. Walking boots are highly recommended, otherwise sturdy shoes with good, gripping soles.

Do you have first aid on site?

The Country Park Warden accompanying pre-booked school groups is a first aider and carries a basic first aid kit.

Why not combine your visit to the Great Orme Country Park with a ride on the Victorian Tram and a trip to the Great Orme Bronze Age Copper Mines? A Great Orme Explorer Ticket costs £8.75 per child and combines all three elements (Tram, Copper Mine and Environmental Activity Walk) and provides a full day's visit to the Great Orme.
