What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

There is lots of space, and the venue is in its own grounds several hundred yards from the nearest road. There is a range of topics covered by the displays, which include a period-furnished cottage, a village shop, farm machinery, an 11th-Century abbey, and mocked-up workshops of various rural crafts.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

History, Art and Design, and Technology are the main curriculum areas, and literacy and numeracy can also be practised. The benefits are in the broad range of objects and experiences to be enjoyed on the site.

What are the activities?

The education service offers sessions under the heading of crafts, handling and exploring. These can range from making bread to clay tiles, handling artefacts connected with farming or Victorian domestic life, to exploring the abbey or the 1940's cottage. Themed visits can be built around these activities, for example an evacuee's experience, a day in the life of a Medieval monk or nun, or the daily life of a fenman.

What is the age range of the activities?

5 years upwards

See website: www.dennyeducation.co.uk

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

We provide all the materials, but some schools like to dress up to add a more authentic touch. Most visits involve the children taking something back that they have made.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

We can take up to 100 children at any one time. All helpers come free on organised school visits.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

We can supply a risk assessment on request, though we encourage teachers to take up our offer of a free, pre-arranged, introductory visit.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Teachers can come on free visits to the museum, whether they eventually book in a school group or not, provided they arrange this in advance with the Education Officer.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

There is a small shop selling 'pocket money' toys, as well as postcards and other gifts. Groups will have to bring their own food and drink.

Is specific clothing required?

Warm clothing during the winter months, and suitable footwear for moving around the site. Although sessions will take place inside buildings, a certain amount of outside walking is unavoidable.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

The museum has no restrictions on photography, provided it is not used for commercial use
