What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Situated in the northern Lake District overlooking Derwent Water we have two facilities on site – our Education Centre can sleep up to 72 young people in dormitories plus up to 9 staff in ensuite bedrooms centre facilities
The Training Centre is ideal for staff development events or for school groups looking for a smaller venue for a tailor made course .This centre sleeps 27 in twin / single ensuite accommodation with conference room and separate dinning and recreational facilities

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Derwent Hill focuses on experiential learning using the local environment and a range of outdoor activities delivered by experienced and committed staff

In the Education centre we offer a range of courses including Personal and social development. GCSE PE modules, geography, John Muir Award, leadership and team development
In the Training centre we offer Staff team development events, Group leader Training, Mountain Leader Training, Leadership courses for School Councils or Prefect groups.
We also design courses to fit your schools needs

What are the activities?

Situated overlooking Derwent Water surrounded by the Lake District Mountains we are an ideal venue for outdoor activities. In our 28 acre private estate we have a High Ropes Challenge, zip Line, ropes course, Orienteering and “Big Swing”. We offer canoeing, kayaking, sailing, rock climbing, gorge descents, mountain walking and scrambling.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Group sizes vary according to the course booked and one free teacher place is offered for every 10 paying pupils.

Our AALA licence ni is L4960 / R0571 and our Risk management summary is available on our website

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

We offer plentiful healthy home cooked food and have a small tuck shop on site for snacks, drinks and Derwent Hill souvenirs

Is specific clothing required?

We provide boots waterproofs and all specialist clothing and equipment

Do you have first aid on site?

All our tutorial staff are first aid qualified
