What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Craggan Outdoors is one of Scotland’s leading outdoor activity & education centres, being TripAdvisor.com’s top-rated AALA-licensed centre in 2009 & 2010, & shortlisted for ‘Best Visitor Experience’ in the Highlands & Islands Tourism Awards in 2009 & 2010, the only outdoor centre to be nominated.

Offering one of the widest ranges of outdoor activities available in the Scottish Highlands, Craggan Outdoors serves groups from two to sixty-plus people, either as day visitors for activities, or residential packages with bunkhouse accommodation. Bunkhouse and bothy are also available for group hire, separate to the activities.

At Craggan Outdoors the emphasis is on offering easy access to a wide range of fun and challenging activities, enabling visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy their time with us, and to be pleased with what they have learned and achieved. With the majority of activities available on-site - minimising your time spent travelling and helping minimise our impact on the environment - instructors that are chosen for their people skills as much as their technical abilities, bright and spacious bunkhouse and cosy bothy accommodation, as well as our welcoming Clubhouse Cafe, Craggan Outdoors provides everything required by the activity seeking visitor.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Whilst all programmes are tailored to the specific objectives, requirements and budget of each individual group, Craggan Outdoors is comfortable in advising that whatever the schedule put together for your group, our ethos and instructional approach ensures that time spent with us will help develop individuals in the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence. We are happy to have these specific discussions with you in relation to your specific enquiry and requirements.

What are the activities?

Choose from archery, art & creativity, bushcraft, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting, climbing (outdoor rock & indoor wall), golf, gorge walking, high ropes, kayaking, mini-quads, mountain biking, paintball, pony trekking, raft building, team building (problem solving & initiative exercises), walking & zip wire

What is the age range of the activities?

Generally speaking we feel that it is children from the age of 7-8 years and upwards that have the necessary physical and mental development to enable meaningful participation in the majority of our activities, although there are some that can be done by younger children, aswell as some minimum age limits on a few activities. We will discuss with you what is best suited to your group.

Sample programme of the activities:

Many and varied, from a single activity session on a morning or afternoon, through to a full Monday to Friday or weekend multi-activity residential.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

Can vary according to activity / activities chosen, type and age of group, and the objectives of the trip, so we liaise with the group organiser on the specific requirements for each individual group.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Maximum group sizes vary across different activities, but generally we work in groups of six to twelve individuals. In terms of free teacher places and other offers / incentives, there are a range of opportunities to get even better value from a booking with Craggan Outdoors, and we are happy to discuss these as appropriate to individual enquiries.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Full Standard Operating Procedures & Risk Assessments are in place - this is a requirement of being AALA-licensed - and are available for inspection upon request.
