What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Set on the edge of Bewl Reservoir 770 acres of inland water (largest in the South East) conbined with nearby Harrisons Rocks a local natural Sanstone outcrop

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Outdoor education links into the National Curriculum in many subjects and gives young people the chance to develop skills that enable them to work together, team building, problem solving, communicating and raising self confidence and esteem, learn about respect for self, others and our environment whilst taking part in fun adventurous activities.

What are the activities?

Whilst at the centre groups can take part in Sailing, Canoe/ kayaking, mountain biking, raft building, team building, Orienteering, problem solving and Rock climbing

What is the age range of the activities?

We take young people on the water from the age of eight and will work with young people of all ages and abilities, including adult team building days.

Sample programme of the activities:

We always liaise with group leaders when building an activity programme either day group or residential so that the groups objectives are met and linked in with other work.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

Residentially we provide bedding (not towels) and we provide all equipment required to do the various activities on site

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

We do have a minimum group size of 20 on the residential building during high season. our day group minimum requirements are linked to the national governing body ratios for sailing, canoeing and rock climbing. All residential groups get one free group leader place in ten.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Bewl Water Outdoor Centre is AALA registered and so our risk management is inspected and we supply group leaders with a risk management summary.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Teachers and group leaders are welcome to phone and arrange a pre visit or to come along and be shown around the centre.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

We are a self catering Centre although we do supply groups with the name of a local catering company that will supply food for the groups, we have a small shop selling souvenirs and there is a visitors centre with cafe on another part of the site.

Is specific clothing required?

We will provide all safety equipment required for the activities and all we suggest is that groups wear appropriate clothing for the time of year.

Do you have first aid on site?

All of our instructional staff are first aid trained

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

We have no restrictions on groups taking photographs whilst on site and our consent forms do state that photographs taken on site may be used for marketing purposes.
