What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

From acclaimed architects to Turner prize-winning artists, Barbican Art Gallery presents major exhibitions by leading international figures. See some of the best exhibitions in the heart of the City of London, including a dynamic mix of architecture, design, fashion and photography.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

There are suitable curriculum links that are specific to exhibitions. To get more information, teachers will need to contact education@barbican.org.uk

What are the activities?

Barbican Art Gallery arrange an array of exciting events and activites to complement their exhibitions. For example, for Ron Arad: Restless, we are holding a Young Designers Workshop and Ping Pong days (as part of the Barbican Do Something Different Weekend).

What is the age range of the activities?

The age range varies according to the event or activity.

Sample programme of the activities:

Young Designers Workshop for aged 5+ on 20 March, 17 April and 8 May 2010, from 2pm, costs £3.
Come Along, Ping Pong on 6th March 2010 (11am-11pm ) and 7th March 2010 (11am-5pm), free.

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

We recommend that you bring pencils and paper into the exhibitions. Cameras are not usually permitted. Teachers should email in advance (education@barbican.org.uk) to confirm what they can and cannot bring to the exhibition.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

For every 10 pupils, one teacher gets in free.

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

No.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

There are two permanent shops (Barbican Foyer Shop on Level G and Barbican Art Gallery Shop on Level 3) and a variety of cafes and restaurants (including the Waterside, Searcys and Costa). The Barbican Centre also a public library, a concert hall, a theatre, three cinemas, conference rooms and cloakrooms.

Is specific clothing required?

No.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes.

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

Cameras are usually not permitted in the gallery, but each exhibitions has different regulations.
