Trip to London to see The Lion King

by MJ on 20th November 2008
Department:
Art and Design
Year Group:
Year 10
Venue Region:
South East England
Town:
London
Summary:
A fantastic day, not cheap but luckily our school subsidised a proportion of the cost to students. They were amazed by the whole experience and a 2.30pm matinee gave us a chance to have a leisurely stroll through covent garden, observing street theatre. We booked early to get front row seats, which for the purose of our visit, were superb.
Venue: The Lyceum Theatre, Covent garden
Booking and collection of tickets was fast and straightforward, the door staff were helpful. 'Nibbles' were very pricey!
Benefit:
The Applied Art&Design students were to make their own theatrical masks, influenced by Afrcian culture and the characters in the Lion King so their attendance at this show was invaluable. We sat in the front row so they could comment upon how the actor wore the mask, how it moved, how it looked...
Plus points:
The London underground staff were really helpful and we got a group travel pass for a really reasonable rate. There's a pizza hut en route from the tube to the theatre and eating the buffet you get served straight away, great for feeding a large bunch of kids quite swiftly! We parked at edgeware tube station which has a supermarket and loos.
Minus points:
The roadworks on the M1 meant a long slow journey :(
Overall:
