Reykjavik
Very interesting city, great mix of old and modern
Accommodation:
Reykyavik Youth Hostel and Arnes Youth Hostel
Reykjavik YH was lively, friendly, very clean with excellent food. Arnes YH was a group of wooden cabins set next to a river - beautiful scenery, very warm and cosy and clean. Local food served in restaurant - generous portions and very friendly
Benefit:
This trip was referred to as the "Trip of a Lifetime" - it did not disappoint. The students gained a huge amount of knowledge and consolidated what they had already learnt in class. They saw things and visited places that were unique and all had an absolutely fantastic time, as did the staff. Everyone joined in all activities and the students really jelled as a group and made new friendships.
Plus points:
Our guide for the trip was an elderly Icelandic gentleman called Arnie and he was a huge factor in the great enjoyment of the trip. He was brilliant with the students and was an absolute fountain of knowledge and anecdotes. He altered plans slightly so we could get the best from every site we visited, according to the weather - he made sure we saw Skogarfoss in the sunlight so we would get the fantastic rainbow it's famous for. He even paid for us all to go swimming at the local pool in Arnes. Everyone loved him.
Blue Lagoon was wonderful experience - be prepared to walk around changing rooms naked and to shower thoroughly before entering any swinning pools!
Gulfoss waterfall - huge and magnificent.
