Outdoor Learning for Year 2

by angiec on 26th March 2009
Department:
Art and Design
Year Group:
Key Stage 1
Venue Region:
East-Midlands
Town:
Matlock
Summary:
Year 2 trip with a dual purpose - to explore different habitats for Science - we looked at the rocky "beach areas" close to water, a meadow, hedgerow and open water. Also superb sculptures which we photographed and used back in class as a starting point for natural sculpture work. Parallel class also visited with a focus on conservation and the water cycle. The exhibition was superb - very interactive.
Venue: Carsington Water
A great venue for outdoor learning and exploring.
Transport: Burtons of Alfreton
Very reliable and professional. Friendly drivers.
Benefit:
Excellent opportunities to explore different habitats and to find out more about the water cycle. Superb exhibition which is interactive and child-friendly. A super adventure playground for letting off steam at the end of the trip - a treat - but also great for encouraging risk taking and physical activity.
Plus points:
Free admission - just ring to advise of your intended arrival date.
Safe site and parking drop off area.
Toilets are accessible and clean.
Sheltered area for picnics if weather is not too good.
Varied habitats to observe for Science
Sculptures to touch and interact with - great for art.
Minus points:
Some areas very close to water so need to ensure risk assessments cover this.
Overall:
