Summary of Lovelace Trip to Slovakia - November 2008

• Trip was successful and went without a hitch.

• Transport which included: Taxi, Plane, Mini-bus, Coach and Private Car were considered safe in both countries, consideration was taken before entering vehicles.

• All journeys were fully supervised on a minimum of 2:1 adult:child ratio for the English children throughout the trip.

• We visited many places of historical and geographical importance as well as observing the school. The Slovak teacher had arranged guides for every place that we visited and the school greeted us cordially. We left with many gifts.

• We made arrangements for our geography project which will allow for multi media exchange between my class (6 Cedar) and a combined English class from the Slovak school. We expect to complete the academic project in June 2009 – but have agreed to continue a link between the schools in the future.

• The most important thing to note was the return journey into England; the immigration channels at Luton (and presumably in every British Airport) are very strict about the paperwork they require in order to allow children through. At all times on the trip, we had carried with us hand-written letters of permission from both mothers accompanied by a copy of the mother’s passport. At immigration, the officer was pleased with these letters, but asked to look through my paperwork in order to see school headed paper. I had been very concerned about the procedures at immigration, as the Slovak teacher had encountered severe difficulty getting the two children through immigration when they had visited us, but the officer was pleased with the letters from the parents, and I would recommend that this is used in the future if children are to be taken abroad.
