Bolton Abbey History trip

by jtaylor on 25th September 2009
Department:
Unknown
Year Group:
Key Stage 3
Venue Region:
England
Town:
Skipton
Summary:
Great variety on this trip - lovely to do on a Spring/Summer's day. Historical evidence, shops, cafes, exercise, fresh air!
Venue: Bolton Abbey
Transport: Hodson's
Prompt and friendly but a little more expensive than others.
Benefit:
Key stage 2 or 3. Can fit with Humanities. History/RE and walk/river
Plus points:
Fits into curriculum for Hist, Geog and RE if needed. A great combination for a trip out - a walk though the woods - to the strid if you have time, or just through the woods and the Abbey. The shop/cafe can be the half ay mark and then walk back. Beautiful area. Pupils get exercise and allowed to run about. Facilities for eating in the large cafe, or there are picnic facilities available. Impressive abbey and church which pupils can walk through, take photos, listen to a teacher giving background etc.
Minus points:
In the rain you are going to get wet and probably muddy. River can be high (risk assessment focus as near water).
Overall:
